FISH-TECH-CONNECT Low Cost Data Collection for Small Scale Fisheries

Ahmad Catur Widyatmoko often called ‘Moko’ is a Fisheries Scientist with a passion for quantitative analysis. His work primarily focuses on small-scale fisheries, including catch data collection and the tracking of fishing vessels and fish aggregating devices using low-cost equipment.  Moko describes how small-scale fisheries are often characterised by data poverty or a complete absence of data, due to the decentralised and informal nature of their operations. One promising method for collecting robust, scalable, and low-cost data is through the use of Electronic Monitoring (EM) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
