Engr. Piedad earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology and his master’s degree in electrical engineering from the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. He is currently on his last year of doctoral studies in Electrical Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona, Spain.
His academic research interests include intelligent systems and applied artificial intelligence, advanced signal processing, and advanced control systems. As of 2026, Mr. Piedad has accumulated four years of experience in the startup industry as the CEO/founder of two startup tech companies, six years of teaching as university lecturer, and nine years of accumulated research experience both local and abroad.
He is presently serving as an S&T Fellow II on Artificial Intelligence at the DOST–Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI). He leads the PCHRD-funded and AI-enabled health program on Assistive Systems Using AI in Healthcare Operations Nationwide (AYUHON) which consists of two projects for communicable and noncommunicable diseases. He is also leading the PCIEERD-funded project on Grid Resilience and Intelligent Data Platform for Automation, Transformation, Control, and Harmonization (GRIDPATCH), which develops an AI-enabled intelligent system for isolated electric cooperatives (IECs). Lastly, he also leads the ASEAN-IVO funded Smart Aquafarm Feeder and Monitoring System in Highly Turbid Conditions (SAqFeeder) for AI-enabled aquaculture farming.
His interests encompass practical, stakeholder-oriented, and research-driven systems applied to various domains such as in agriculture, health, and energy for public good.
