Jasper Laurente is an Intelligence and Compliance Analyst at OceanMind, a UK–based Non-government Organization (NGO). Since joining OceanMind in 2020, he has applied satellite and spatial analysis to fisheries intelligence, supporting intelligence collection and patrol operations across a wide geographic range—from Philippines, Palau and the Indo-Pacific to remote territories such as Ascension, Tristan da Cunha, and the South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands, and regions including Mozambique and the Turks and Caicos, The Senegal and The United Kingdom. Jasper specializes in assessing vessel behavior, interpreting multi-sensor imagery, evaluating advance requests to enter port, and strengthening traceability to support both private partners and government agencies in detecting and deterring Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Before his work at OceanMind, Jasper had more than a decade of practical industry experience in the Philippines and Papua New Guinea. He served as Head of Quality Assurance and Control Department for a fishing group, where he directed third-party certification programs for standards including the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), Friends of the Sea, and the Responsible Fishing Vessel Standard, while overseeing food safety, product quality, sustainability, and environmental compliance. He also worked as a member of the Technical Working Group of the Fishing Industry Association of Papua New Guinea during that country’s Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification process. Earlier roles include Technical Officer and Head of Laboratory in the Probiotic Department at Charoen Pokphand Foods Philippines.
Jasper holds a Master in Sustainable Development Studies and a BS in Marine Biology from Mindanao State University — General Santos City.
