As the Indonesia Program Lead at International Pole and Line Foundation (IPNLF)
Indonesia, Kai develops and promotes Indonesia one-by-one tuna fisheries by
ensuring the delivery and reporting of the work carried out in Indonesia, while seeking
new opportunities and collaborations with funders, project partners, and IPNLF
members. With over five years experience working in small-scale tuna fisheries in
Indonesia supporting both fisheries and community organisation programmes with
technical expertise. Kai cultivates partnerships with other NGOs, governments, and
academics, fostering collaboration to advance sustainable tuna fisheries management
in Indonesia. An ocean enthusiast and dedicated surfer from the Canary Islands, Kai
transformed his passion for the ocean into a career by completing a bachelor’s degree
in Marine Science at Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, followed by a
master’s degree in Aquaculture and Marine Resource Management at Wageningen
University. His academic foundation, combined with field experience in the Canary
Islands, Belize and Indonesia, has shaped his holistic approach and deep
understanding of marine ecosystems and fisheries.
